Choshi City

Choshi developed in the Edo period due to the water transportation of the Tonegawa river, becoming the primary base of distribution that connects the Tohoku region and Edo. The name “Choshi” came from the mouth of the Tonegawa river resembling a Sake bottle.

The city was born in 1933, establishing the second municipal organization in the Chiba Prefecture. Warm in the winters and a cool oceanic climate in summers. The average temperature during year is about 15℃.

The coastline of the Choshi peninsula, a part of the Suigou Tsukuba Kokutei Park centers on the Inubosaki cape with a precipitous cliff and a spectacular view from the top of a mountain. The sunrise on New Year's day is seen the earliest in Japan.
