Mobara City
Mobara City, covers an area of 50~70km located approximately in the center of Chiba Prefecture stretching towards the Pacific Ocean.
In the west foothills many archaeological sites of villages and people once lived. During the Muromachi Period, the area developed in to a temple town.
In the Heian period, Fujiwara Kokumaro created a Manor in the region called the “Sogen” Manor and in the Edo period changed calling this historical town “Mobara”.
In the Edo period the Rokusai marketing system was established transforming Mobara to a market town exchanging produce and fish. In the Meji period, the beginning of the wave of modernization and military development developed new transportation across the nation. In Chiba, the new Boso railway led to the Mobara train station. Along with establishing prefectural agriculture schools and various financial institutions, this led Mobara to be the center of local politics, economy, and traffic along with developing as a model for the new Meiji culture.
An airport was made in the beginning of the Showa era which was shifting towards the war regime, influencing local traffic and industry. After the war, rich with underground resources such as natural gas, Mobara becomes a modern city and develops into a prominent inland industrial city in the prefecture.
In 1952, six towns and villages are amalgamated, Mobara City was born.
